Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has successfully scaled the screening exercise conducted by the All Progressives Congress ahead of the party’s governorship primary election for the 2027 polls.
Hamzat completed the screening before the APC Governorship Screening Committee in Abuja on Saturday.
Speaking after the exercise, the deputy governor described the process as transparent, detailed and in line with the democratic principles of the ruling party.
According to him, the screening was designed to verify the authenticity of documents, records and experiences submitted by aspirants seeking to contest on the APC platform.
“The screening was designed to verify the credentials, records, and experiences submitted by aspirants seeking to fly the APC flag. The essence of the screening is to ensure that everything submitted is accurate and verifiable,” he said.
Hamzat explained that members of the committee carefully examined his credentials and sought clarification on aspects of his professional background and years of public service.
“We submitted all required documents and the committee asked questions based on the information provided. It is basically to confirm that what you wrote is truly reflective of your experience and service,” he added.
The deputy governor stated that the panel also requested further details on responsibilities he had handled while serving in various government positions.
He expressed confidence in the APC primary process and reaffirmed his commitment to the continued development and progress of Lagos State.
“I am very comfortable with my party and confident in the democratic process. Ultimately, the decision rests with party members and the people. Our responsibility is to continue offering our best in service to the state and the country,” Hamzat stated.
He also stressed the need for sustained leadership focused on innovation, governance and improving the welfare of residents, noting that Lagos must continue to maintain its position as a model for development in Nigeria.
