United States President, Donald Trump, has claimed that the US military could hit “every single target” in Iran within two weeks, insisting that the Islamic republic had already suffered major military setbacks.
Trump made the remarks during an interview with independent journalist Sharyl Attkisson aired on Sunday.
The interview, which was reportedly recorded last week, also featured sharp criticism of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which Trump described as a “paper tiger.”
The former US leader accused Washington’s allies of failing to support military operations against Tehran.
The comments come amid reports that Iran had responded to the latest proposal from the United States aimed at ending the conflict that reportedly began on February 28 following coordinated US and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets.
“They’re militarily defeated. In their own minds, maybe they don’t know that. But I think they do,” Trump said during the interview.
“That doesn’t mean they’re done,” he added.
Trump further suggested that the US military still had the capacity to intensify its operations against Iran if necessary.
“We could go in for two more weeks and do every single target. We have certain targets that we wanted, and we’ve done probably 70 per cent of them, but we have other targets that we could conceivably hit,” he stated.
“But even if we didn’t do that, you know, that would just be final touches,” he added.
Speaking on NATO, Trump maintained that the military alliance failed to provide meaningful support during the conflict.
“NATO has proven to be a paper tiger. They weren’t there to help,” he said.
