Fresh tension has erupted within the Ondo State chapter of the APC following reports that some federal lawmakers may receive automatic tickets ahead of the 2027 elections.
Supporters of Okitipupa/Irele Rep member, Jimi Odimayo, and APC consensus aspirant, Olumuyiwa Daramola, have engaged in heated exchanges over the controversial development, with both camps accusing each other of backing imposition politics.
The crisis comes weeks after party stakeholders reportedly adopted Daramola as the preferred consensus candidate for the Okitipupa/Irele federal constituency seat, a move rejected by several aspirants who later obtained nomination forms in Abuja.
While Daramola’s supporters warned against any attempt to override the consensus arrangement, Odimayo’s loyalists argued that the controversy only exposed double standards within the party leadership.
Political observers say the growing division may force the APC to adopt direct primaries to avoid further unrest ahead of the 2027 polls.
