The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has approved 150 as the minimum admissible score for admission into universities and colleges of nursing across Nigeria for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The decision was reached during the annual admission policy meeting held in Abuja on Monday, where heads of tertiary institutions agreed on new admission benchmarks.
According to JAMB, the minimum cut-off marks are:
Universities — 150
Colleges of Nursing — 150
Polytechnics — 100
The meeting also introduced a major reform affecting colleges of education. The Federal Government announced that candidates seeking admission into colleges of education will no longer be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of Education, said candidates with at least four credit passes in relevant subjects would be eligible to apply for admission into colleges of education without taking UTME.
However, affected candidates will still register with JAMB for documentation, screening, verification and processing through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
The annual JAMB policy meeting is used to determine admission procedures, guidelines and minimum cut-off marks for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education nationwide.
