The All Progressives Congress has disqualified 47 senatorial aspirants from participating in its Senate primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party announced the development in a statement issued on Monday by Felix Morka, saying the screening exercise was conducted in line with the party’s established guidelines and procedures.
Among those not cleared are three serving senators — Benson Agadaga, Garba Maidoki, and Banigo Ipalibo.
Former senators Ben Murray-Bruce and Usman Wowo were also barred from the primaries.
Other prominent aspirants affected include Tamunobaabo Danagogo, Tein Jack-Rich, and Ojukaye Amachree from Rivers West Senatorial District.
From Oyo State, Ajimobi Wasiu Adegboyega, Kolapoboye Kola Daisi, and Ademola Wasiu Alli also failed to secure clearance from the party.
The affected aspirants cut across several states, including Adamawa, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, the Federal Capital Territory, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.
Although the APC did not officially state reasons for the disqualifications, the development comes amid rising tensions and controversies surrounding the party’s ongoing primary elections nationwide.
The ruling party had fixed May 18 for its Senate primary elections as preparations intensify for the 2027 polls.
