Ademola Okeowo, an aspirant for the All Progressives Congress ticket for Ijebu North Constituency I in the Ogun State House of Assembly, has withdrawn from the race and declared support for the party’s consensus candidate, Olatunbosun Ipaye.
Okeowo announced his decision during a meeting with party members and stakeholders at the APC secretariat in Ijebu Igbo on Tuesday.
The lawyer said his ambition was driven by a desire to serve the people with integrity and competence, but explained that he decided to step down after consultations with party leaders and stakeholders to maintain unity within the party.
According to him, his political structure and supporters would now work for the success of the APC consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I have decided to step down unconditionally in support of the party’s consensus candidate in the spirit of unity, loyalty, and collective interest,” he said.
The Vice Chairman of the APC in Ijebu North Local Government, Adesegun Adenola, praised Okeowo’s decision and said the move would strengthen the party ahead of the primary election.
Adenola disclosed that about 14 aspirants initially showed interest in the assembly seat before the number was reduced to four, with two aspirants already stepping down in support of the consensus arrangement.
