Plateau Senator Loses APC Ticket to Businessman in Landslide Primary Upset

The incumbent Senator representing Plateau Central Senatorial District, Diket Plang, has been defeated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election, losing his bid to return to the Senate.

The primary election, held on Monday, May 19, 2026, produced businessman David Bitrus Barji as the APC candidate for the 2027 general elections after a decisive victory.

According to the official results announced by the Returning Officer, Saddat Garga, Barji secured a total of 57,727 votes, comfortably beating Senator Plang, who finished a distant second with 1,822 votes. Other aspirants in the contest also recorded far fewer votes.

Garga described the exercise as peaceful, orderly, and transparent, commending party members for their conduct throughout the process.

With his victory, Barji is now set to fly the APC flag in the forthcoming senatorial election for Plateau Central Senatorial District in 2027.
