The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has intensified Ebola surveillance and health screening procedures at the country’s international airports following renewed outbreak concerns in parts of Central Africa.
FAAN said enhanced monitoring measures have been activated to protect public health and ensure safe airport operations across Nigeria.
According to the agency, passengers arriving from high-risk countries are now undergoing stricter health checks in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, and other relevant agencies.
The authority explained that any suspected Ebola case would be immediately isolated and subjected to further medical examination in accordance with national and international health protocols.
FAAN also disclosed that emergency response systems have been strengthened, while airport personnel are undergoing increased sensitisation and coordination efforts to improve rapid response capabilities.
Although Nigeria has not recorded any confirmed Ebola case, authorities say the heightened surveillance became necessary following reported outbreaks in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
Health experts noted that the move reflects growing concerns about possible cross-border transmission of the virus and highlights the importance of early detection and coordinated public health responses.
