Kwankwaso working for Tinubu behind the scenes, says Abba Yusuf’s aide

Sanusi Bature, spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, has alleged that former Kano governor and NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is secretly working to advance President Bola Tinubu’s political interests ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Bature claimed that while some politicians openly support Tinubu, others are backing him discreetly.

“There are those working for Tinubu openly and there are those supporting him behind the scenes. I believe whatever Kwankwaso is doing will ultimately favour Tinubu,” he said.

Bature, who identified himself as a member of the APC and a former opposition spokesperson in Kano, alleged that Kwankwaso supported Tinubu during the 2023 elections and may be doing the same ahead of 2027.

He also dismissed reports of a possible political alliance between Kwankwaso and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing such a partnership as unrealistic and unsustainable.

According to him, the New Nigeria Peoples Party is no longer strong enough to compete independently in the next election cycle.

Bature claimed that discussions had already taken place among political stakeholders in Kano on possible realignment ahead of 2027, with the APC allegedly identified as the preferred platform.

He further alleged that Kwankwaso had initially sought a meeting with President Tinubu over political negotiations but later cancelled the appointment due to a trip to China.

Commenting on the speculation of a Kwankwaso-Obi ticket, Bature argued that such an arrangement would struggle to gain acceptance in Kano.

“A Peter Obi-Kwankwaso ticket will not work in Kano politics,” he said, adding that despite Kwankwaso’s strong performance in the 2023 election, a joint ticket with Obi would struggle to secure the same level of support in the state.

He maintained that shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 election could reshape the political landscape in Kano and across the country.
