The Dangote Refinery has announced a fresh reduction in the gantry price of automotive gas oil (diesel), lowering the price from ₦1,800 to ₦1,600 per litre.
The development was confirmed on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Chinedu Ukadike.
The latest adjustment represents a ₦200 decrease, equivalent to an 11.76 per cent drop in price, raising expectations that petrol prices could also decline in the coming days.
Industry observers say the reduction is expected to influence retail diesel prices nationwide, which currently range between ₦1,800 and ₦2,000 per litre in several parts of the country.
The move comes amid ongoing volatility in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector, driven largely by rising global crude oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Checks on the international market showed that Brent crude traded around $95 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate stood at approximately $90 per barrel as of Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, petrol prices in Abuja and neighbouring areas currently range between ₦1,350 and ₦1,365 per litre at major filling stations.
Analysts believe Dangote Refinery’s latest price cut could ease transportation and production costs for businesses and consumers if sustained.
