Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced the emergence of Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections in Kano State.
The announcement was made in a statement shared on Kwankwaso’s official page on Friday.
According to the statement, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna was also selected as the party’s candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial seat.
Kwankwaso said the decisions were reached based on equity, fairness, loyalty and competence, which he described as core values of the party and the Kwankwasiyya movement.
“This decision was made in the spirit of equity, fairness, loyalty, and competence — values that remain central to our party and Kwankwasiyya’s progress and unity,” the statement read.
The former governor also expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the 2027 elections and prayed for a peaceful and successful affirmation process.
The development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the NDC positioning itself as a major opposition platform.
