A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the suspension of party elder and Board of Trustees member, Bode George, along with 23 other chieftains over alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension was announced on Friday by Kayode Ogunbiyi, chairman of the Lagos PDP Disciplinary Committee, and Desmond Agho, the committee’s secretary.
According to the committee, the decision followed the review of several petitions accusing the affected members of actions deemed contrary to the party’s constitution and interests.
Those suspended include Aduke Maina, Abimbola Ogunkelu, Laja Adeoye, Tunji Shelle, Sunday Olaifa, Gbenga Adegbesan, Rita Orji, Kofoworola Bucknor, Onikepo Oshodi, Idera Sodipo, Adedipe Ewenla, Bode Ogundipe, Aminu Suleiman, Roli George, Adetokunbo Pearse, Adeyemi Moyegun, Taiwo Kuye, Setonji Koshoedo, Muritala Ashorobi, Amos Fawole and Olumuyiwa Richard.
The committee alleged that the suspended members were collaborating with rival political parties in ways that undermined the PDP’s interests in Lagos State.
It further stated that the affected individuals would no longer participate in party activities or represent the PDP in any official or unofficial capacity while the suspension remains in effect.
The faction also warned that legal action could be taken against any suspended member found engaging in activities contrary to the party’s interests.
The development is the latest chapter in the long-running dispute between Bode George and the Wike-backed faction of the PDP, a conflict that has deepened divisions within the party in recent years.
