More than 400 people were arrested across France following celebrations of Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) Champions League victory over Arsenal, as some fans clashed with police and caused property damage.
Thousands of supporters took to the streets of Paris, including the Champs-Élysées and areas around the Parc des Princes. While most celebrated peacefully, unrest broke out in several locations, with fireworks and flares sparking confrontations with security forces.
French authorities reported that 416 people were arrested nationwide, including 280 in Paris. Seven police officers sustained injuries, and several vehicles, businesses, and public facilities were damaged.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez condemned the incidents as “absolutely unacceptable,” noting that tear gas was deployed to disperse aggressive crowds. Footage shared on social media showed burning vehicles and damaged shopfronts.
The disturbances prompted criticism from political figures, including far-right leader Marine Le Pen, who questioned why football victories often lead to riots in France.
Despite the violence, PSG’s official victory celebrations continued, with players participating in a parade near the Eiffel Tower and attending a reception hosted by President Emmanuel Macron.
