The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has expelled 365 students for allegedly securing admission into its Higher National Diploma programmes with falsified academic credentials.
The institution said the affected students were discovered to have submitted fake National Diploma results and forged academic transcripts from various institutions during the admission process.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, who explained that the action followed an extensive verification exercise carried out on documents presented by students during admission and registration.
According to the statement, the decision forms part of the institution’s efforts to uphold academic standards and maintain a zero-tolerance stance against fraud and other forms of academic misconduct.
Ajibola noted that the School of Communication and Information Technology recorded the highest number of expulsions, with 156 students affected. It was followed by the School of Business and Management Studies with 117 students, while the School of Science and Technology accounted for 54.
The School of Engineering had 36 affected students, while only two students were expelled from the School of Environmental Studies.
The polytechnic described the measure as a necessary step towards sanitising the academic system and preserving the credibility of its programmes.
Reacting to the development, the Rector, Dr Koye Jolaoso, warned prospective applicants against presenting fake certificates or other forged credentials to gain admission into the institution.
He said the move reflected the institution’s determination to promote academic integrity, excellence and professionalism, while strengthening its reputation as a credible centre of learning.
Jolaoso added that the polytechnic would continue to enforce strict measures aimed at protecting the value of its certificates and ensuring transparency in its admission process.
