The Imo State Police Command has arrested three of its officers after a video showing them engaging in cult-like behavior went viral on social media. The officers, identified as Obinna Peter, Amaechi Augustine, and Ejikeme Victor, were seen in the video wearing berets and caps associated with the notorious Vikings confraternity, also known as Denmark (DNKI).
The video, which surfaced recently in Owerri, the Imo state capital, showed the officers chanting “men mount” and firing sporadically into the air, actions that sparked widespread condemnation from the public.
The police command described the conduct as highly unprofessional and unbecoming of Nigeria Police personnel.Following the video’s circulation, Imo police commissioner Aboki Danjuma ordered a prompt and thorough investigation into the matter.
According to Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, the officers were immediately taken into custody, and an orderly room trial was scheduled to begin shortly to determine the extent of their involvement in cultism and other related offenses. The police command assured the public that it remained committed to upholding discipline, ethics, and professionalism in its ranks.
Therefore, commissioner Danjuma condemned the acts as unethical and promised transparency and accountability as the investigation proceeds.This incident has heightened concerns about possible cult infiltration within security agencies, leading to calls for stronger oversight and strict enforcement of disciplinary measures against officers found engaging in such activities.
The results of the investigation and trial are expected to be made public in due course.
