The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, on Monday delivered a major boost to legal education in Nigeria by announcing the forthcoming construction of a new auditorium for the Nigerian Law School, Bwari Campus. This commitment was made during the official flag-off ceremony for the construction of over 600-bed male and female student hostels at the institution.
The new auditorium project, Wike disclosed, received direct approval from President Bola Tinubu after the Minister highlighted the limitations of the current facility in accommodating the surging number of law students.
“When I raised this with Mr. President last night, he immediately directed that another auditorium should be built for the Nigerian Law School,” Wike stated, describing the intervention as a testament to the President’s dedication to improving the justice sector.
The event marked the commencement of the hostel project, which will provide 316 spaces each for male and female students, effectively easing the school’s acute accommodation shortage. Minister Wike gave a firm assurance that the construction would be completed and delivered within a 12-month timeframe with no cost variation.
He further noted that these interventions, from the new hostels to the proposed auditorium, are part of the administration’s sustained efforts, previously demonstrated through projects like staff quarters, championed under the supervision of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Prince Lateef Fagbemi.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, expressed profound gratitude to the Presidency, the AGF, and the FCT Minister, acknowledging that the new infrastructure would significantly address long-standing challenges faced by students.
