The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, setting the tone for early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.
The endorsement took place at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, attended by party leaders, traditional rulers, and top government officials.
The motion to endorse President Tinubu was moved by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and seconded by Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. Both cited Tinubu’s developmental strides and progressive reforms over the past two years as justification for his re-election.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described Tinubu as a leader who has delivered on many of his campaign promises, stressing that the president deserves to continue his “Renewed Hope” agenda. “By unanimous decision, we endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to run for a second term. Lagos stands firmly behind him,” Sanwo-Olu declared.
The meeting was graced by former governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, members of the National and State Assemblies, local government chairmen, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) led by Prince Oluyole Olusi.
In their remarks, ministers from Lagos—Wale Edun (Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy), Maruf Tunji Alausa (Education), and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Trade and Industry)—presented a scorecard of Tinubu’s administration, highlighting achievements in economic reform, education, and trade.
Senator Tokunbo Abiru, speaking for the National Assembly caucus, praised Tinubu’s leadership style, saying: “As President, he has extended his legacy of innovation and governance excellence to the entire nation. Lagos proudly endorses his re-election in 2027.”
APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, representing the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, stressed the importance of both voter registration and turnout, while the Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced incentives for the most active voter mobilisation units—ranging from ₦1 million for polling units to ₦20 million for local governments with the highest new registrations.
Former Governor Fashola used the occasion to reflect on voter apathy, urging the party to reconnect with the electorate. “We must ask ourselves—are our policies resonating with the people? Renewed Hope should inspire renewed enthusiasm,” he said.
He commended the Lagos APC’s organisational strength and advised against complacency, noting that “electoral success depends on the party’s ability to communicate a clear and inspiring message to voters.”
The event marked the beginning of a structured campaign mobilisation for the ruling party in Lagos, signalling a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.
