African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Apostle Ayodele David-Adesua, has strongly condemned the attack and burning of the party’s state secretariat in Ado Ekiti.
In a statement released on Wednesday, David-Adesua described the incident as a “barbaric act of political cowardice,” saying it was an attempt to intimidate the party and its supporters ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Hoodlums reportedly stormed the ADC secretariat on Tuesday, vandalised properties, and disrupted the inauguration of the party’s executives at various levels.
Reacting to the attack, David-Adesua said, “This attack is not just on a building but on the democratic will of Ekiti people. No amount of destruction or deceit will break our resolve. From these ashes, we shall rescue, rebuild, and rise stronger.”
He vowed that the ADC would continue its mission to restore Ekiti to the path of justice, unity, and good governance, pledging to confront “corruption with courage and tyranny with truth.”
Former Minister of Interior and ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, who was in Ekiti for the inauguration, also denounced the attack. He described it as a “shameful display of intolerance and a threat to democracy,” stressing that true democracy thrives on freedom of association and peaceful political engagement.
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed that an investigation has been launched to identify and prosecute those behind the attack.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed June 20, 2026, for the Ekiti State governorship election.
