Professor Farouk Haruna has been appointed as the first substantive Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora (FUEK) in Niger State. He is set to assume office on Monday, November 4, 2025.
The announcement was made by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Francis Faduyile, following the Council’s fifth meeting in Kontagora. According to Faduyile, Professor Haruna was selected after a rigorous process involving six shortlisted candidates.
Highlighting his experience, Faduyile noted that Professor Haruna has previously served as Acting Vice Chancellor, Provost, and Chairman of the Committee of Provosts. The Pro-Chancellor reassured staff, students, and parents that Kontagora remains a safe and conducive environment for learning and living.
Describing FUEK as one of the fastest-growing teacher education institutions in Nigeria, Faduyile emphasized its strong academic staff and modern facilities. Originally a College of Education, the institution was upgraded to a Federal University of Education in 2021 and began admitting students in March 2025.
Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State congratulated Professor Haruna on his appointment, describing him as a seasoned scholar with the competence and track record to lead the university to greater heights. The governor also pledged state support to ensure the success of the new vice chancellor.
With this appointment, the Federal University of Education, Kontagora now has its first substantive leadership to guide its growth and academic excellence.
