President Bola Tinubu has appointed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State as the Chairman of the National Steering Committee for the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP), a flagship initiative aimed at boosting grassroots economic development across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards.
The appointment marks a significant step toward operationalizing President Tinubu’s ward-based development strategy, which seeks to empower local communities through targeted interventions. The programme aims to identify and support at least 1,000 economically active individuals in each ward, generating employment, reducing poverty, and enhancing food security by promoting local economic activities tailored to the unique characteristics of each community.
The Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme is designed to foster collaboration among Federal, State, and Local Governments to bridge macroeconomic reforms with microeconomic realities, ultimately driving double-digit economic growth and improving livelihoods. The programme aligns with the broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to transform Nigeria’s economy into a $1 trillion economy by 2030 through decentralized development and empowerment.
Governor AbdulRazaq, as committee chairman, will oversee the programme’s execution, coordinating efforts with state governors and other stakeholders to ensure the initiative delivers tangible benefits at the grassroots level. This strategic focus highlights the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development nationwide.
The National Steering Committee will also include key figures from across the federation, tasked with monitoring the progress and effectiveness of the programme to ensure accountability and success in achieving its ambitious goals.
