The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Honorable Samaila Bagudu, was abducted by gunmen in his hometown, Bagudu Local Government Area, on Friday evening, October 31dt, 2025. The incident occurred shortly after he had performed his Isha’i prayers and was returning home from the mosque.
According to the Kebbi State Police Command, a group of armed men invaded Bagudu town around 8:20 p.m., firing sporadically to cause panic before seizing the lawmaker. The police, alongside military personnel and local vigilantes, have launched a joint search and rescue operation aimed at securing his release and apprehending the kidnappers.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the abduction and stated that the government is actively engaged with security agencies to ensure the safe release of the Deputy Speaker. He appealed for calm and assured the public that more information would be forthcoming after a full security briefing.
The Commissioner of Police described the act as dastardly and vowed that those responsible would not go unpunished. Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and provide any useful information to aid the ongoing security operations.
