In a significant move to enhance transparency and accessibility in recruitment processes, the Nigerian Federal Government, through the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), has adopted online computer-based tests (CBT) for the recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
The Secretary of the Board, retired Major-General Abdulmalik Jubril, officially confirmed this advancement in a statement released recently from Abuja, underscoring that the new online recruitment format marks a modernized approach to selecting candidates for these critical paramilitary agencies.
“From Thursday, October 30, 2025, candidates are to verify their shortlisting status and access details for their computer-based test via the official CDCFIB recruitment portal,” Maj. Gen. Jubril stated.
He emphasized that candidates shortlisted for the recruitment exercise must carefully note the venue, date, and time allotted for their CBT sessions.
This recruitment exercise saw an overwhelming response, with over 1.9 million applications received before the closing of the portal in August 2025, a testament to the high demand for roles in these security agencies.
The Secretary also issued a stern warning to applicants about the prevalence of fraudulent activities surrounding the recruitment process.
“The federal government recruitment process remains free of charge, and applicants should only rely on the official recruitment portal to avoid scams and fraudsters exploiting desperate job seekers,” Maj. Gen. Jubril cautioned.
The CDCFIB recruitment portal, accessible at https://recruitment.cdcfib.gov.ng, offers candidates an opportunity to check their shortlisting status and retrieve their CBT examination slips. Candidates must use their National Identification Number (NIN) and registered phone numbers to log in for verification.
According to recruitment guidelines, the computer-based test is a critical stage in the multi-step screening process which includes initial application submission, shortlisting, CBT, physical and medical screening, and final selection. This rigorous procedure ensures that only qualified and physically fit candidates join Nigeria’s paramilitary forces.
The adoption of online exams is expected to streamline the recruitment procedure, reduce bottlenecks in candidate selection, and minimize the risks of manual errors and corruption often associated with traditional paper-based methods. Following the CBT, successful candidates will proceed to physical and medical examinations before final training and deployment
