A tragic incident of domestic violence unfolded in Demsa Local Government Area on November 6th, 2025, leading to the death of a 67-year-old woman, Miltha Jeriel, at the hands of her 71-year-old husband, Jeriel Clifford, during a violent dispute.
Jeriel Clifford Peter allegedly unleashed a brutal attack on his wife, Miltha Jeriel, with a knife and an axe inside a beer parlour when a disagreement between the couple escalated uncontrollably. Eyewitnesses recounted how the elderly man, reportedly in a drunken fury, stabbed his wife multiple times, turning a simple quarrel deadly.
Responding promptly to a distress call, operatives from the Adamawa State Police, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Demsa, arrived at the scene. The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite emergency efforts, Miltha Jeriel was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Her remains are currently at the hospital mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.
The suspect was apprehended on the spot, and both the knife and axe used in the attack were recovered by the police. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest and the seizure of the weapons, highlighting the swift action taken by law enforcement.
The incident drew sharp condemnation from the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, who labeled the killing “unfortunate and barbaric.” The CP directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola to take over the investigation to ensure it is carried out discreetly and that diligent prosecution follows.
In a stern warning to the public, Commissioner Morris urged residents to avoid domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of peaceful conflict resolution. “The Command will ensure justice is served and that no offender escapes lawful punishment,” he assured.
He further counseled couples to seek help and intervention before disputes escalate into violence, warning that the command is committed to stamping out cases of domestic abuse within the state.
