Terrorists are actively attacking travellers along the Eruku–Egbe road in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, causing vehicles to line up and motorists to panic. This ongoing assault has forced several vehicles, including long trucks, to stop by the roadside as passengers scramble for safety.
Eyewitnesses confirmed on Monday that the terrorists remain active along the route, urging travellers to avoid the area until security forces can intervene. One eyewitness warned, “The bandits are still on the move; it is not safe to travel this road right now.”
Earlier attacks in the region highlight a disturbing pattern of violence. On the Ayere–Kabba road in Kogi State’s Ijumu Local Government Area, terrorists ambushed a commercial bus around 5 pm on Sunday, opening fire on passengers. Several were injured, and one person was confirmed dead at the general hospital.
According to a witness of the Ayere–Kabba attack, some vehicles managed to escape the gunfire, but many passengers were struck by bullets. The source said, “One person was confirmed dead at the general hospital, while others are receiving treatment for gunshot injuries.” Residents have expressed growing concern over the rising danger on this route as armed gangs operate increasingly between Kogi and neighboring Kwara State.
This escalation reflects a broader pattern of insecurity in the area, with frequent attacks, kidnappings, and abductions reported in border communities between Kwara and Kogi states. Local residents have urged government authorities and security agencies to increase patrols and provide urgent protection to restore public confidence and safety for travellers.
The continual targeting of travellers along these routes has left many stranded and fearful for their lives, emphasizing the urgent need for coordinated security responses to curtail the terrorist menace destabilizing this region.
