Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) following a tragic incident in Owerri that resulted in one death and left another individual critically injured.
The governor’s directive, announced on Monday through his Chief Press Secretary, Ogowike Nwachuku, comes amid growing public concern over ENTRACO’s operational conduct in the state.
Uzodimma noted that recent complaints had questioned the agency’s methods, describing them as “ugly incidents” that demanded urgent review. He emphasized that while ENTRACO’s operations are suspended, citizens must not interpret the move as a license to disregard traffic, environmental, or related laws.
“Anyone caught violating such laws will face the full weight of the law,” the governor warned.
The suspension is expected to allow a comprehensive investigation into the agency’s mode of operation and ensure that law enforcement and public safety standards are strictly upheld in the state
