The Nigerian senate president Godswill Akpabio has revealed the emotional toll that violence and killings across Nigeria have taken on him, stating emphatically that he is deeply moved by every tragic loss of life among his fellow citizens.
Speaking candidly to the press, Akpabio declared, “I cry anytime Nigerians are killed,” underscoring the weight of his responsibility and personal anguish as a national leader faced with recurring incidents of insecurity.
Akpabio stressed, “The sanctity of human life must be respected in our country. Whenever I hear reports of Nigerians losing their lives in violent attacks, I cannot hold back my tears. It weighs heavily on my heart.”
He called upon all stakeholders—including government agencies, security operatives, and community leaders—to “work together, irrespective of political differences, to restore peace and prevent unnecessary deaths across all regions.”
The Senate President further stated, “It is not enough to just condemn killings from afar. We must take deliberate steps as a nation to put an end to this cycle of violence. Every Nigerian deserves to feel safe, and no family should have to mourn loved ones because of preventable insecurity.”
Akpabio’s remarks come amid mounting concerns over incidents of violence affecting communities nationwide, sparking renewed debate about the effectiveness of current security strategies and the urgent need for unified action.
He concluded by appealing directly to families affected by violence, saying, “I share in your pain, and I pledge to continue pushing for policies and legislative actions that will offer protection and justice to every Nigerian. It is a duty we must all uphold—for the sake of our present and future generations.”
