Residents of Ejiba, a community in Yagba West LGA of Kogi State, were thrown into confusion on Sunday morning after armed attackers stormed a local place of worship during service and abducted multiple individuals.
According to community-based reporting platform Egbe Mekun, the incident took place at a newly established Cherubim and Seraphim Church. Witness accounts indicate that worshippers fled in panic as the attackers advanced on the premises.
A congregant, Adegboyega Oguns, confirmed that the church leader—popularly known as Orlando—his wife, and several others were taken away by the assailants. He noted that the suddenness of the attack left many members scrambling for safety.
The event adds to the rising security concerns in Kogi State, particularly across Yagba axis communities. Just a day earlier, another group of armed criminals reportedly struck along the Isanlu Makutu–Idofin corridor in Yagba East LGA, causing widespread fear and leading many residents and travellers to avoid the route.
At the time of this report, community sources maintain that details regarding the number of persons abducted in the Ejiba incident remain uncertain. Local movements have slowed significantly, with residents staying indoors and motorists diverting to alternate roads to avoid potentially unsafe areas.
The repeated attacks have renewed public discussions on the need for enhanced community policing strategies, rapid-response mechanisms, and stronger inter-agency coordination to address the evolving security landscape in the region.
