The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Osogbo, Prof. Clement Adebooye, has advised eligible students to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support their academic journey.
He gave the encouragement during the matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session at the university’s main campus.
According to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the institution admitted over 13,000 students out of about 40,000 applicants who sat for its Post-UTME screening.
Prof. Adebooye emphasized that the NELFUND initiative was designed to ensure that no determined student is denied higher education due to financial hardship. He urged fresh students who meet the criteria to apply, adding that the university is fully aligned with the Federal Government’s student loan policy.
Beyond the loan scheme, the VC noted that UNIOSUN also has more than 300 scholarship opportunities available for bright students who may be facing financial challenges.
He expressed concern about the high cost of accommodation for students on various campuses, blaming private landlords for imposing unreasonable rents. Adebooye assured that the university was developing strategies to tackle the issue.
“We will curb the excesses of these landlords by the next academic session,” he promised, while appealing for patience from the students.
The institution recently inaugurated seven major projects, including a new Senate Building, as part of activities marking its 15th convocation.
