Jigawa State Government has announced a major investment of N35 billion in Islamic education as part of its 2026 budgetary plans, signaling a robust commitment to enhancing religious education across the state. This initiative aims to strengthen the foundation of Islamic learning and promote educational development in the region.
The Commissioner for Education in Jigawa State, Dr. Bala Iliyasu, disclosed the state’s strategic plan to elevate Islamic education standards through this substantial funding. Speaking at a press briefing, Dr. Iliyasu emphasized that the allocation reflects the government’s dedication to supporting both formal and informal Islamic educational institutions, including madrasas and Qur’anic schools.
“This N35 billion budget allocation is a testament to our commitment to provide high-quality Islamic education to our citizens. It will help build better infrastructure, supply necessary learning materials, and improve the training of teachers in our Islamic schools,” Dr. Iliyasu stated.
The funding will support various programs, including the construction and renovation of Islamic schools, provision of scholarships to deserving students, and the enhancement of curriculum development to align with contemporary educational standards while preserving Islamic traditions.Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar reiterated the government’s vision for the education sector, highlighting Islamic education as a critical pillar in the state’s socio-cultural development.
According to him, “Our investment in Islamic education is not just about preserving faith; it is an investment in the future leaders of Jigawa who will be equipped with both religious and modern knowledge.”
The government’s initiative also aligns with Jigawa’s broader educational reforms aimed at increasing literacy rates, improving educational access in rural areas, and integrating religious education with national educational frameworks.
Community leaders and educational stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, viewing it as a progressive step toward empowering youth and fostering moral and intellectual growth in the state. Sheikh Umar Buhari, a respected Islamic scholar, expressed optimism: “This funding will greatly enhance the quality and reach of Islamic education, enabling more children to benefit from structured religious learning.”
The N35 billion earmarked for Islamic education is expected to be part of the state’s comprehensive approach to education next year, promising significant improvements and increased opportunities for learners throughout Jigawa State.
