Riley Moore, the leader of a United States congressional delegation investigating claims of genocide against Christians in Nigeria, says the experiences and testimonies gathered during the mission have left a lasting impact on him.
Moore shared his reflections in a post on his verified X account on Thursday.
The US lawmaker, who arrived in Nigeria on Sunday, led his team to Benue State, where they met community leaders, including Bishops Anagbe and Dugu, as well as the Tor Tiv. The delegation also visited camps hosting thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
During the visit, Moore noted that Benue State currently has more than 600,000 IDPs, many of whom are Christians displaced by repeated attacks attributed to armed groups.
In his post, Moore described the testimonies from survivors as deeply moving and said the situation amounted to a “horrific genocidal campaign.”
He added that he is preparing a detailed report for US President Donald Trump, outlining recommendations for collaboration between the US and Nigerian governments to address violence in the Middle Belt and ongoing security threats in the Northeast.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Moore wrote. “It will stay with me the rest of my life. We will brief the President soon.”
