NIS announces temporary downtime on passport digital platform

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced that its Passport Digital Platform will experience temporary disruptions as the agency carries out scheduled system maintenance.

The maintenance exercise, according to NIS, will run from 12:00 a.m. on December 12 to 6:00 a.m. on December 14, 2025 (GMT).

This information was shared in a public notice posted on the agency’s official X handle. The announcement was signed by the NIS Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi.

The service explained that the scheduled maintenance is intended to boost system efficiency and enhance the user experience for Nigerians applying for passport services online.

“During this period, users may face temporary service interruptions, slow response times, or limited access to certain passport services,” the statement read.

NIS urged applicants to remain patient, noting that the maintenance is essential to maintaining a secure and reliable digital passport infrastructure.

The agency added that its technical team is working continuously to ensure all services are restored within the announced timeframe. Applicants needing assistance during the maintenance period were advised to reach out to support via email at support@immigration.gov.ng or through the service’s official social media pages.

Earlier in the week, the NIS disclosed that it had activated temporary complaint-response channels on social media after some of its support accounts were taken down.

The new channels, which are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted communication with applicants, include the X handles:

@nigimmigration

Complaints can also be submitted via Instagram.

The agency said the move was necessary to ensure continuous support for users facing challenges with passport or visa applications.
