Kano Cleric Killed During Early Morning Prayer Call in Maraba Quarters

A Muslim cleric, Ladan Zubairu, was killed on Monday morning at the Yusuf Garko Mosque in Maraba Quarters, Kano, while preparing for early morning prayers.

According to his son, Isa Kasim, the cleric had gone out at dawn to make the call to prayer. After completing the first call, he usually sat briefly to recite supplications before the second. It was during this period that an assailant reportedly entered the mosque and attacked him.

Following the incident, residents of the area pursued the suspect, who was later killed by an angry mob. The suspect’s residence was also set ablaze before security personnel arrived to restore order.

Confirming the development, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said officers swiftly intervened to calm the situation and prevent further violence. He noted that normalcy has since returned to the community.

Police recovered the bodies of both the cleric and the suspect and took them to the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital. The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered a full investigation into the incident.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information to aid the investigation.
