The Ondo State Government has announced a crackdown on the widespread display of illegal banners, posters, and unapproved advertisements across the state.
In a statement issued in Akure, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Signage and Advertisement, Mr. Yomi Oyekan, said the government would no longer tolerate the defacement of public spaces through unauthorised advertising.
Oyekan stressed that no form of advertisement is allowed anywhere in the state without clearance from the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency, adding that Ondo should not be treated as a dumping ground for unlawful adverts.
He identified several locations, including Akure Mall, Oja Oba, Arakale Market, Alagbaka, and the Bank of Industry building, as areas badly affected by illegal advertising.
According to him, property owners who permit their buildings to be used for such adverts would be regarded as collaborators and face sanctions.
He disclosed that with immediate effect, all illegal advertisements would be removed without prior notice, while both advertisers and property owners would be fined and prosecuted in line with existing laws.
Oyekan explained that the enforcement exercise is aimed at restoring order, preserving the state’s aesthetics, and reclaiming public spaces, noting that compliance is now mandatory.
