The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Maiduguri Branch, has strongly condemned the deadly explosion that occurred at the Gamboru Market Mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the incident as a heinous act of violence against innocent civilians.
The explosion, which took place on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, occurred during Maghrib prayers and resulted in the death of five worshippers, while several others sustained serious injuries.
In a statement released on Friday, December 26, 2025, and jointly signed by the Chairman of the NBA Maiduguri Branch, Barrister Zanna Hamza, and the Secretary, Barrister Zakariya Umar, the association described the attack as “horrifying” and “detestable,” noting that it was clearly intended to instil fear within the community.
“The Nigerian Bar Association, Maiduguri Branch, unequivocally condemns the horrifying explosion that rocked the mosque at Gamboru Market, Maiduguri,” the statement said.
The NBA stressed that such acts of violence would not weaken the resolve of residents, adding that the community remains united against terrorism and extremism.
The Nigerian Army Headquarters has confirmed that the attack was carried out by members of the Boko Haram insurgent group.
The association expressed deep sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and extended prayers to the injured.
“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, and we wish those who sustained injuries a swift and full recovery,” the statement added.
The NBA also called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property, stressing that the fight for peace and security must be sustained.
“We urge the government and security forces to strengthen security measures and remain steadfast in safeguarding citizens. The pursuit of peace and security must not wane,” it said.
In addition, the association appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, noting that community vigilance is essential to preventing future attacks.
“Together, we can strengthen our communities against those who seek to disrupt our harmony,” the NBA concluded.
