Stakeholders have intensified calls on Vice Admiral Ibok-ette Ibas (rtd.), former Sole Administrator of Rivers State, to submit himself for a public account of his six-month stewardship during the state of emergency.
This call came during an online conversation hosted Monday by NPO Reports in partnership with the Iwadi Development Initiative.
The speakers emphasized that the whooping N254.37 billion allocated to the state from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between March and August 2025 should be properly accounted for.
Ibas was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in March after the declaration of a state of emergency, which suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his cabinet, and members of the House of Assembly. The emergency rule ended last week, with Fubara reinstated.
“All the proceeds and what you’ve done with those proceeds, you ought to account for it. The National Assembly should, as a matter of urgency, ask him to give a comprehensive account and make it public,” Adeyemi stated.
Paul Bazia, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, added that presenting an account would also clear doubts.
“For the purpose of accountability, you need to tell the people, ‘I received this amount, and this is how it was spent.’ It is not about indictment, but about transparency,” he said.
Speakers expressed optimism that with Fubara’s return, governance in Rivers would stabilise and focus on development projects that benefit citizens.
