Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday announced a major cabinet reshuffle, which included the removal of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the appointment of new officials to key positions.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo has been relieved of her position as SSG with immediate effect. Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde has been appointed as her replacement.
The governor also redeployed Barrister Temilolu Seun Ashamu from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. Ademola Aderinto, Senior Special Assistant on Public Works, has been nominated as a commissioner-designate and will be presented to the Oyo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Additional appointments include Honourable Abiodun Adedoja as Special Adviser on Energy Security and Kolawole Elijah Akanmu as Senior Special Assistant on Budget and Economic Planning.
The new SSG, Professor Babatunde, is an accomplished economist from the University of Ibadan, where he holds a B.Sc., Master’s, and PhD in Economics. He previously served as Chief Economic Adviser to Governor Makinde and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning during the governor’s first term.
Professor Babatunde’s credentials include the World Trade Organization Doctoral Internship Visiting Scholar Support Award (Geneva, Switzerland), the African Economic Research Consortium Collaborative PhD Scholarship, and extensive experience consulting on national and state economic initiatives. His work has included contributions to the National Factsheet on the Economic Partnership Agreement, Niger State Economic Development Strategy, and Vision 3:2020 plans.
Governor Makinde’s cabinet reshuffle reflects a strategic repositioning of his administration ahead of ongoing developmental priorities in Oyo State.
