The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast sunny and hazy weather conditions across Nigeria from Wednesday to Friday, with isolated thunderstorms expected in parts of the southern region.
In its three-day weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet said the northern region will experience sunny and hazy skies throughout the forecast period.
The agency noted that the southern region is expected to have sunny skies with patches of cloud, with isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall likely over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states later in the day.
“For Thursday, sunny and hazy conditions are anticipated over the northern and central regions, while the southern region will experience sunny skies with patches of cloud,” the forecast stated.
NiMet added that morning thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are expected over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.
According to the agency, Friday will witness sunny and hazy conditions in the morning across the northern region, with dust haze expected in the afternoon and evening.
The central region is forecast to experience sunny and hazy weather, while the southern region will have cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning, alongside isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa states,” NiMet said.
The agency warned that dust particles are currently in suspension over the north-central region, advising the public to take necessary precautions.
NiMet urged people with asthma and other respiratory conditions to be cautious and advised motorists to drive carefully during rainfall.
Airline operators were also advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to aid effective operational planning.
The agency encouraged residents to stay updated through its regular weather advisories.
