The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has suspended one of his aides, Sa’idu Enagi, following the publication of an unauthorised article suggesting the minister’s possible interest in the 2027 Niger State governorship election.
The article, titled “Malagi 2027,” reportedly examined the prospects of Idris contesting the governorship race. However, the minister distanced himself from the publication, saying it was neither authorised nor reflective of his position.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Rabiu Ibrahim, special assistant on media to the minister, described the write-up as misleading and officially disowned its content.
He said the minister remains fully committed to his duties at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and has no interest in engaging in political activities or distractions at this time.
According to Ibrahim, Enagi has been suspended with immediate effect pending an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the publication.
The statement also emphasised that Idris maintains a cordial working relationship with Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, noting that political speculation ahead of the 2027 elections could undermine ongoing efforts aimed at the development of the state.
