The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has expressed sympathy with the people of Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area after suspected bandits killed 12 residents on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s publicity secretary, Segun Adewara, condemned the attack as “despicable, senseless, and the height of man’s inhumanity to man.”
“The PDP condoles with the entire Oke-Ode community, especially the bereaved families. Our hearts are broken for the families and friends of those brutally killed and for the many still in hospital,” the statement read.
The party warned that insecurity in Kwara is worsening, accusing criminals of “tactically taking over the state.” It criticised Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for failing to respond decisively, saying he should have visited the community to comfort mourners and assure citizens of government action.
“Instead, the governor has chosen to focus on attacking the opposition, particularly Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, rather than addressing the deepening insecurity,” PDP said.
The party further accused the government of neglecting local vigilantes and frontline security operatives, while diverting resources to entertainment and football events outside the state.
“What Kwara is experiencing today is unprecedented, unfortunate, and a monumental leadership failure,” the statement added.
PDP prayed for the repose of the victims and wished the injured speedy recovery. It urged the governor to prioritise security above politics, stressing: “The protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government, and any leader who fails in this duty has failed in every other area of governance”
