Bashir Ahmad, former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has weighed in on the upcoming contest in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primaries, suggesting that only the primaries process will determine if Peter Obi can surpass Atiku Abubakar.
In a post on X, Ahmad highlighted the strengths of both potential contenders: Obi’s popularity among younger voters and Atiku’s solid support base built on party structures and machinery.
“Obi has strong backing from young Nigerians, while Atiku has the advantage of established party structures and influence,” Ahmad wrote.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who recently defected to ADC, is expected to challenge Atiku, the former Vice President, for the party’s presidential ticket in 2027.
Ahmad’s comments underscore the stakes ahead, as both figures prepare for a likely showdown in the race for the ADC nomination.
