The US State Department has announced the revocation of over 100,000 visas since President Donald Trump resumed his term in the White House last January.
In November 2025, the department reported that 80,000 visas had been revoked since the beginning of the year.
Most of the revocations were related to business and tourist travelers who overstayed their visas.
In an X post on Monday, the State Department revealed that 8,000 of the revoked visas belonged to students, along with 2,500 specialized workers who also lost their legal status.
A spokesperson for the department noted that the majority of students and workers whose visas were canceled had been involved in criminal activities with law enforcement.
Nearly 500 students lost their visas due to drug possession and distribution, while several foreign workers had their visas revoked over allegations of child abuse, according to the spokesperson.
Half of the revocations concerning specialized workers were tied to drunken driving arrests.
In August, the Trump administration disclosed its plans to review all 55 million foreigners who currently hold valid US visas.
“We will continue to deport these thugs to keep America safe,” the State Department stated in the X post.
At the outset of his second term, Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border during his inaugural address and vowed to address “illegal” immigration.
Since then, the US has tightened its visa criteria, announced revisions in its visa policies, and enforced travel restrictions on various countries, including Nigeria.”
