Emeka Ihedioha, former governor of Imo State, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the party as a credible platform for responsive and people-focused governance.
Ihedioha, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April 2024, completed his registration on Monday at Mbutu ward in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. He was issued ADC membership card number 001.
The registration was conducted by Obinna Opara, the party’s ward secretary, while Alex Ahamuefula, the ward chairman, presented the membership card. Party officials, stakeholders, and community leaders were present at the event.
Speaking after his registration, the former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives said his decision to join the ADC was intentional and driven by his belief in the party’s values of accountability, clear principles, and service to the people.
According to him, both Nigeria and Imo State need leadership that prioritises public interest, listens to citizens, and delivers responsive governance.
“Our people desire leadership that listens, serves, and places the common good above personal interest,” Ihedioha said, adding that he believes the ADC offers a strong platform to pursue such ideals.
He also noted that registering at the ward level reflects his commitment to grassroots politics.
National party officials present included Bon Unachukwu, ADC national vice chairman for the South-East, Maigari Kasimu, deputy diaspora coordinator, and Uko Nkole, coordinator of the former legislators’ forum.
Unachukwu described Ihedioha’s entry into the party as a major boost for the ADC in the South-East and across the country, noting that the party was pleased to welcome an experienced former governor.
James Okoroma, Imo State ADC chairman, who led members of the state executive committee to receive Ihedioha, said the development would further strengthen the party in the state.
