The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will complete two terms in office, citing a dream he said foretold the president’s re-election.
The monarch made the statement on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral A. A. Mustapha, to the palace in Lagos.
Oba Akiolu urged Nigerians to remain patient with the current administration, stressing that the economic challenges facing the country are temporary and would give way to positive outcomes from the government’s reforms.
“I dreamt that President Tinubu will be re-elected and will spend eight years as President of Nigeria,” the Oba said. “Nigeria has its challenges, but we will overcome them. The suffering of today is for a better tomorrow.”
He emphasised that national development and security are collective responsibilities, not solely those of the government, and praised the Nigerian Navy for its professionalism and commitment to safeguarding the nation’s waterways.
The Oba described Lagos as strategically important to national security, noting that a significant percentage of Nigeria’s imported goods pass through the state’s ports. He also called for improved intelligence sharing among security agencies through the establishment of a joint intelligence board.
Earlier, Rear Admiral Mustapha explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Navy and traditional institutions, recognising the role of monarchs in maintaining community security. He also acknowledged past advice from the Oba, which he said had positively influenced his career.
