Supreme Court Dismisses Suit Seeking Retrial of Al-Mustapha Over Kudirat Abiola’s Murder

The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit seeking the retrial of Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late military head of state, Sani Abacha, over the murder of Kudirat Abiola.

Kudirat Abiola, wife of the late Moshood Abiola, was assassinated on June 4, 1996, in Lagos.

Al-Mustapha and Lateef Shofolahan, a former aide to Kudirat Abiola, were accused of involvement in her killing. They were subsequently charged by the Lagos State Government on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit murder and murder.

On January 30, 2012, both men were sentenced to death by Mojisola Dada, a judge of the Federal High Court in Lagos, after being found guilty of the offence.

Details of the Supreme Court’s ruling are expected to be released later.
