The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olayide Adelami, has awarded full scholarships to 100 newly admitted students at the Government Technical College, Owo. The announcement was made public through a statement from the Office of the Deputy Governor and formally issued by the Press Secretary to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Mr. Johnpaul Akinduro, on Saturday.
The scholarship package, which covers the entire three-year training programme of the beneficiaries, was unveiled by the institution’s Principal, Mr. Tayo Ijabiken, during the 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony held on the school premises.
Addressing students, staff and stakeholders, Ijabiken expressed heartfelt gratitude to the deputy governor for the “noble and generous gesture,” emphasising its transformational impact on recipients.
“It is with deep gratitude that I stand before you to express our profound appreciation to the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olayide Adelami, for the noble and generous gesture of awarding scholarships to one hundred newly admitted students of this college,” he said. “Through this intervention, Your Excellency has not only provided financial relief to students and their families, but has also inspired hope, confidence and renewed determination in the hearts of these young learners.”
Ijabiken characterised the initiative as a significant booster for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the state and thanked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his sustained commitment to education, particularly efforts aimed at skills acquisition for youths and women.
Representing Dr. Adelami at the event was Kola Olawoye, former Attorney-General of Ondo State and Commissioner for Justice. Speaking on behalf of the deputy governor, Olawoye highlighted that the scholarship scheme aligns with the administration’s broader vision to strengthen technical education statewide.
Dr. Adelami’s message to the students was firm: take your training seriously. He underscored that technical education is a viable pathway to self-reliance and job creation—a strategic priority within the state’s human capital development agenda.
In addition to covering tuition for all three years, the scholarship commitment also includes daily feeding stipends for the beneficiaries throughout their period of study, providing further financial relief for students and families alike.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Ogbeni Oluyi, reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to reposition technical education in line with global best practices.
“The commitment of Governor Aiyedatiwa to technical education is firmly anchored on the OUREASE Agenda of his administration, which prioritises opportunity creation, economic expansion, social inclusion and security,” Oluyi said.
Observers note that this scholarship initiative complements other recent education interventions in Ondo State, including the approval of a ₦350 million scholarship and bursary fund for tertiary students, part of wider efforts by the Governor’s administration to expand access to education and empower young people across the state.
