The medical community mourns the loss of Dr. Olumide Osoba, a distinguished Nigerian physician based in the United States, who passed away on Tuesday, the news confirmed by his family to SaharaReporters.
Dr. Osoba’s journey in medicine began at Lagos Anglican Boys Grammar School and continued at the University of Lagos, where he earned his MBBS (Honors) from the College of Medicine. He later attained the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States to specialize in General Internal Medicine.
Renowned for his clinical expertise and compassionate care, Dr. Osoba served as Emergency Room Director at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, before establishing his own practice on Marcy Avenue. There, he became a trusted physician for both the African American and Nigerian communities, including members of the Nigerian Diplomatic Corps at the United Nations.
Beyond patient care, Dr. Osoba was a dedicated mentor to Nigerian foreign medical graduates, many of whom have risen to leadership positions in medicine. He also contributed as a staff physician at Long Island University in downtown Brooklyn.
Dr. Osoba is survived by his wife and children. His passing leaves a profound void among patients, colleagues, and the wider Nigerian diaspora who admired his dedication to medicine and mentorship.
