Healthcare services are set to return to normal in Ogbomoso as resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH-TH) have suspended their indefinite strike after two months of crippling industrial action.
The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) announced the suspension in a letter to the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olakulehin Olawale, following an Emergency General Meeting on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
According to the doctors, the decision was influenced by the intervention of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who personally visited the hospital on September 30 and pledged to address their demands.
The letter, jointly signed by ARD President Dr. Adedokun Stephen and General Secretary Dr. Mustapha Adedapo, confirmed that doctors would resume full clinical duties by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2.
“For weeks, patients in Ogbomoso and surrounding towns were left stranded, with emergency and specialist services shut down due to poor working conditions, lack of medical equipment, and welfare challenges faced by doctors,” the letter noted.
The doctors described their decision as a mark of goodwill towards the governor’s assurances, stressing the need for sustained government commitment to healthcare reforms.
“This decision was reached in honor of the visit of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, and in recognition of his sincere commitment to resolving the longstanding demands of our association,” the statement read.
Residents, who have long depended on LAUTECH-TH for affordable medical care, welcomed the development with relief, hoping the resolution would mark the beginning of lasting improvements in the state’s health sector.
