9-year-old girl dies after tipper accident in Ondo

There was widespread sorrow in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, over the weekend following the death of a nine-year-old girl who was struck by a tipper truck.

The fatal incident occurred at Supare Junction on Supare Road, leaving residents of the area in distress.

Witnesses said the child was hit by the truck in an incident that shocked onlookers, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.

She was reportedly taken to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment but was later pronounced dead by attending health workers.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, who confirmed the incident, said the driver involved had been apprehended.

According to him, the victim, identified as Fatima Ibrahim, was knocked down by an unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck.

He added that the vehicle had been taken into police custody for examination, while an investigation had commenced to determine the cause of the accident.

Abayomi sympathised with the bereaved family and assured that the police would ensure accountability in the case.

He also advised motorists to strictly comply with traffic regulations and exercise caution on the roads to prevent similar tragedies.
