A teenage girl and her newborn baby are currently under state protection in Niger State following an alleged abuse case now being investigated by law enforcement authorities.
It was gathered on Tuesday that the minor was admitted into the care of the Child Rights Protection and Enforcement Agency last year after her condition was reported by family members and a local community leader.
Officials disclosed that the girl, who was already several months pregnant at the time, received medical attention and was kept in protective custody until she safely delivered a baby boy.
The Director-General of the agency, Uma Mohammed, confirmed that both mother and child remain in the facility as efforts continue to safeguard their welfare.
She explained that the case was escalated to the police for investigation, with necessary steps, including a paternity test, carried out as part of the process.

According to her, a suspect linked to the matter has been taken into custody, while further inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable minors, noting that it is working closely with security agencies to ensure justice is served in line with the law.
The incident has again brought to the fore growing concerns over child safety and the urgent need for stronger protective measures for minors across communities.
