The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man identified as “Abule” for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Ibadan, even as it is investigating a suspected murder case and the death of a commercial motorcyclist in separate incidents across the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka.
In the defilement case, the suspect was arrested over allegations that he lured the minor, a hawker of snacks, into an uncompleted building in the Araromi area of Molete, Ibadan, where the offence was allegedly committed while she was attempting to collect payment for goods sold.
“The suspect allegedly took advantage of the child by luring her into an uncompleted building where he unlawfully had carnal knowledge of her,” the statement said.
According to the police, operatives of the Sanyo Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, promptly responded to the report, while the victim was taken for medical examination and treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, has directed that the case be transferred to the Gender Unit of the Command for further investigation, reiterating the resolve of the police to ensure prosecution of offenders.
“The Command remains resolute that perpetrators of such heinous acts will face the full weight of the law,” the statement added.
In a separate development, the Command also confirmed it has commenced investigation into a suspected murder involving a 37-year-old man, Basiru Rasheed Orelope, following the death of 35-year-old Rukayat Rafiu.
The incident was reported by Ademola Rasheed Adebayo and Taoreed Olayiwola after the suspect allegedly brought the deceased’s body to a residence under suspicious circumstances.
Preliminary findings, according to the police, showed no visible signs of violence on the body, which has since been deposited for autopsy along Akala Express, Ibadan.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly claimed the deceased was his customer who fell ill while they were together in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, adding that she died after being taken to a medical facility. He further stated that he transported the body to Ibadan, a development that raised suspicion.
The Command said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, adding that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet inquiry.
In another incident, the police confirmed the death of a 25-year-old motorcyclist, Umar Yahúza, following a lone accident at a Border Patrol checkpoint along the Iseyin/Oyo Road.
The victim was said to have been rushed to Fadok Hospital but was confirmed dead at about 7:30 a.m. after sustaining injuries.
The incident sparked a protest by commercial motorcyclists, who alleged the involvement of security operatives at the checkpoint. However, the police said the situation was brought under control following engagements with community leaders.

The Command disclosed that two officers an Assistant Superintendent of Police and an Inspector attached to the Border Patrol Unit have been detained in connection with the incident pending investigation.
It added that the matter would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, assuring that any officer found culpable would be sanctioned accordingly.
Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and justice, while urging residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
